RedmiBook 15 Pro: Overview | The Tech-Freak |
RedmiBook 15 Pro: Design & Looks
Starting off with the looks, as compared to its elder siblings, RedmiBook 15 Pro does not stand off the expectations we all had with this. The company has opted for Plastic this time unlike the metal built on the Mi Notebook Laptops which are around a similar price bracket. It lacks the premium feel that we all liked about the Mi Notebooks earlier.
According to me, the use of plastic is fine, but it could have been better if the company had paid a little more attention to its design and finishing. The RedmiBook 15 Pro weighs around 1.8 Kg and is 19.9 mm thick.
This time we get a Charcoal Gray color option which is a refresh. Overall the design is simple and good for professional people.
RedmiBook 15 Pro: Display
RedmiBook 15 Pro has a 15.6-inch Full HD 60Hz Display, which is quite common in this price range. But, if we talk about quality, the laptop's display is quite a letdown to me. The display has poor viewing angles and colors are dull and washed out. The Brightness is also good only indoors, the moment you step out you will start having issues with the display.
The only benefit you are getting on the display front is the bigger 15.6-inch display, which is easy to run office-related applications on it.
In the longer run, it would NOT be a great decision to choose this laptop in terms of display.
RedmiBook 15 Pro: Keyboard & Trackpad
RedmiBook 15 Pro has a full-sized keyboard with a decent 1.5mm of key travel. Big keys and good spacing between the keys make it easier and comfortable to type on.
But, we are NOT getting a Backlit- Keyboard here which could be a deal-breaker for many people. Also, this keyboard lacks a Numpad.
So, people who have to type in the dark won't be happy with this.
The Trackpad is quite big and supports Windows Precision Drivers. It is quite smooth and responsive. So, you won't have any complaints regarding this Trackpad.
RedmiBook 15 Pro: Performance
One of the strongest points to buy this laptop could be the performance that it offers. The RedmiBook 15 Pro is powered by the latest 11th Gen Intel i5-11300H Tiger Lake Processor with a clock speed of up to 4.4 GHz and Intel Iris Xe Graphics.
It comes with 8GB of DDR4 3200MHz RAM with 512GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. The RAM is not upgradable whilst we can upgrade the Storage on this by exchanging the SSD.
The RedmiBook 15 Pro runs on Windows 10 Home Edition and has free upgrade support for Windows 11. Light gaming can be done on this machine although it is not a gaming laptop. Performance-wise this laptop exceeds the expectations.
RedmiBook 15 Pro: Connectivity & Ports
In the terms of ports, we get a 3.5mm headphone jack, a USB 2.0 port, LAN (RJ45) port, SD card reader, and a Kensington lock which are present on the right side. On the left side two USB 3.2 Gen 1, an HDMI, and a DC charging port to the left. RedmiBook 15 Pro supports WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 5.0.
This laptop lacks a Type- C port and a Fingerprint sensor which is again disappointing. The two features are mostly demanded by users nowadays.
The RedmiBook 15 Pro sports a built-in 720p Camera unlike its sibling Mi Notebook 14. The camera is more than enough to make video calls, attend online classes and meetings.
RedmiBook 15 Pro: Audio
The RedmiBook 15 Pro has 2W dual speakers and the output from the speakers is clear, loud, and well balanced. The speakers are tuned by DTS Audio.
The Multimedia experience would have been great if the display was better as the speakers are impressive. It is good to see that company has given importance to speakers.
RedmiBook 15 Pro: Battery
RedmiBook 15 Pro runs on a 46Whr Battery which provides a battery life of around 10 hours on paper. In reality, it can last up to 4 to 5 hours on a single charge with mixed usage.
The RedmiBook 15 Pro ships with a 65W which takes approximately 35 minutes to charge it to 50 percent.
RedmiBook 15 Pro: Final Verdict
The Performance, Connectivity, and Audio on the RedmiBook 15 Pro are quite good but it seems that this time the number of misses is more than that of hits, which makes it hard to recommend it to users as this clearly does not stand the expectations. We just hope that Xiaomi brings better updates to this series, as we have seen earlier in the smartphones department. We all know Xiaomi has done this in past and can surely do it in the future. But this time, customers can look onto other options which provide better value for money and satisfies their needs.
